When Is the Right Time to Start Weaving?

When is the right time to start weaving? I remember feeling impatient and wanting to finish something, but at the same time, I felt as though I was getting nowhere. I guess that is why this piece feels heavy to me.

I chose black and red without giving too much thought to what the colors might say. The black became dense and weighty, while the red kept appearing through it in small, uneven marks. Looking at it now, those little flashes of red remind me of thoughts trying to push their way through my mind.

Most of my weavings begin at the bottom, so the single tassel was there before the row of red tassels across the top. I did not plan it as a symbol, but looking at the finished piece, it seems like one thought or feeling standing apart from all the others.

What I find interesting is that I did not consciously set out to weave any of this. I was simply working with yarn while carrying a certain mood. Yet the colors, the uneven red threads, and even the placement of that single tassel seem to have recorded something I was feeling at the time.

When it was finally finished I recognized the feelings and the story behind it. Perhaps our hands say more than we realize when we create. Not every piece has to be peaceful or carefully planned. Sometimes it simply reflects where we were at that moment, even if we only understand it later.
